Blast From The Past
At Gravitaas the YZ250 holds a special place in our hearts, a direct link to the golden era of 2-stroke riding and off-road racing, a time when it epitomized raw, unfiltered performance. Its smooth power delivery, the scream of the engine through the powerband, and that classic, nimble responsiveness defined what a dirt bike should feel like. For many of us, the YZ250 was more than just a bike, it was our first real machine, our gateway into the world of riding. This particular build takes the nostalgia even further, converting the 250 into a 300 and pairing it with a wide-ratio transmission. When we had the chance to throw our leg over this machine, it felt like coming home, smooth gearing, seamless power delivery, and all the familiarity we missed.
This build is tailored for Baja-style desert riding but remains versatile enough to rip through single-track woods and tackle technical terrain. To outfit the bike, we paired it with our Apex Panel, dual Heretic lights, a Rear Apex Panel, and a Stack Pack for spare parts and tools. Since the bike lacks a computer and the typical wiring most enduro bikes have behind the stock number plate, we used the SX mounts to attach the Apex Panel, preserving its clean, low-profile look up front. The Heretic light setup includes one clear and one amber lens, an ideal combination for desert and open terrain. Running dual lights lets you aim one for distance and the other for close-up illumination, creating a well-lit view for both near and far obstacles. The clear lens cuts through the dark, while the amber lens shines through dust, perfect for when you find yourself tailing another rider. The Stack Pack shifts a few pounds of tools and spare parts off the rider's hips and back, reducing weight and improving comfort. Meanwhile, the Rear Apex Panel will carry a spare riding jacket or a spare tube for those unexpected pinch flats.
